Can you believe we’re over three months into the season already? The drama unveiled already since August has been plenty! Liverpool and Manchester City continue to dictate at the top of the table with Arsenal and Aston Villa hot on their toes. Whilst the bottom of the table is rather compact with Ipswich, Wolves and Southampton still looking for their first win of the season with Palace, Everton and Leicester not too far ahead of them.
With yet another international break to contend with and European football beginning to get into full swing, it’s a game of roulette to decide which players will play league games with midweek games against European giants in the back of managers' minds.
Big Money Makers
Mo Salah and Erling Haaland seem to be back to their best with both netting goals at the end of October. Liverpool and Salah have got on paper a good run-in with Brighton, Aston Villa and Southampton their next opponents. It might be a good idea to keep him in your team but it’s also wise to consider that in November they also face Bayern Leverkusen and Real Madrid so Slot might decide to take him off early or rest him altogether. Similarly, Haaland and Man City have got Bournemouth and Brighton before facing Spurs, but have a “nicer” draw in the Champions League with Sporting CP and Feyenoord to face.
At £12.6m and £15.4m respectively, it’s probably wise to select one and spend more lucratively elsewhere. Perhaps go for Cole Palmer who at £10.9m has the second most points behind only Salah, and has only failed to score or assist three times in the nine played so far this season.
Age is Just a Number
Golden oldies Chris Wood and Danny Welbeck have shown this season that they’ve still got it. At £6.4m, Wood is a bargain with seven goals in nine games this season whilst Welbeck at a slightly less price of £5.9m has seven goal involvements in nine games. If you’re stuck for cash, going for one of these strikers is worth every gamble!
Who Else is in Form?
Several other players are currently in top form. Brentford’s Mbuemo and Wissa have shown consistently that they can perform at the top level with 68 and 39 points between them whilst Wolves full-back Ati-Nouri is a cheap £4.5m option who is not afraid to go forward – he’s got three goals and two assists in their opening nine games. Fellow Wolves player Strand Larsen is a solid £5.5m option up front who currently has four goal involvements in nine games, and with Wolves set for a good selection of fixtures this month perhaps it's time you bring in the Norwegian.
Everton’s Dwight McNeil is running rings for the Toffees just like Facundo Buonanotte is causing Leicester City’s opponents havoc.
