The Biggest Films This Year!

2022 has already been an exciting year for film fans around the world, not to mention the latest Spider-Man release! Film Reviewer, Megan Fraser looks ahead at what films we can still look forward to this year...


The Batman (March 2022)


Robert Pattinson’s Batman is fighting crime in this new film focusing on the much-loved DC hero. Though Pattinson has a lot to live up to in the role, with classic characters such as Catwoman and The Riddler also featuring in the film, it looks promising.


Top Gun: Maverick (May 2022)


The sequel to this much-loved classic is making an appearance over 35 years after the first movie was released. Maverick (Tom Cruise), one of the Navy’s top aviators for over 30 years, is tasked with training the next generation of pilots.


Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness (May 2022)


Little is known about the plot of the Doctor Strange sequel, but we can expect it to follow on from the events of recent Marvel releases Wandavision and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Strange, along with Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Olsen, and Benedict Wong.


Lightyear (June 2022)


Chris Evans takes over the role of Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s new animation. The film is set to focus on the real Buzz and his adventures, from which the toy in the Toy Story movies is based on.


The Untitled Elvis Presley Project (June 2022)


This is Baz Luhrmann’s first time back in the director’s seat since 2013. The film, which is yet to be given an official title will take a look at the life of the legendary musician, Elvis Presley. Starring Austin Butler as the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis fans will most likely love this insight into his life.


Thor: Love and Thunder (July 2022)


Another one of Marvel’s 2022 releases, the fourth film in the Thor series is set to be a fan favourite next year. With Taika Waititi returning as director after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, the film is set to see the return to Jane Foster as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy.


Don’t Worry Darling (September 2022)


Starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, the film features a 1950s housewife beginning to see the cracks in her glamorous utopian community. Actress Olivia Wilde steps into the directing role once again after her success with Booksmart in 2019.


Avatar 2 (December 2022)


The award-winning visual masterpiece is finally getting its sequel. Following on from the events of the previous film, Jack Sully (Sam Worthington) continues to live on the planet pandora but must protect his new home when a familiar threat returns once more. With many original cast members returning, this film is on track to reel in audiences next Christmas.
